MediaMosa version 2 stable release

06Jan2011

After more than 14 months of development we are proud to release the first stable version of MediaMosa version 2. Yesterday Drupal released the first stable version of Drupal 7, the CMS on which MediaMosa is build. It was the final piece needed for releasing our new version 2.

So what's new compared to version 1? The upgrade to Drupal 7 from Drupal 6 was a major change for our v1 code. And such a big change that most of the development time went into rewriting our database layer and making it more efficient. New database design allowing more scalability and easier installation. Cleaner and better code for efficient open source development. The administration of the backend got a needed overhaul and redesign.

The new version 2 starts at v2.2.7 and upgrading from version 1.7.5 is possible using the included migration tool. We recommend that upgrading should be done using a new installation and do a test migration first before proceeding with upgrading production versions. We do recommend that you upgrade as soon as possible, as we will stop support on version 1 soon.

The future of MediaMosa is bright. In a few weeks we will release version 2.3 which is currently in testing phase and almost stable. The new 2.3 release will feature a major speed improvements for metadata searching using Lucene Solr search engine support. Also support for woza log statistics and many other improvements.

Any bugs can be posted on our trac system on page http://mediamosa.org/madtrac/newticket. Revert to our forums for possible questions or other feedback.
